I am lucky enough to perform as a Christmas Elf named Elfina (what can I say my parents didn't have a lot of imagination!) and I perform Thursdays and Fridays at Kids Market. Today at the last show, I needed an interpreter. The audience were mainly Spanish speaking. students out on a scavenger hunt. They had just missed the 2 pm show and the leader asked if they could come back for a show. I started 15 minutes early to accommodate them.
In amongst these 12-15 year old Spanish speaking group of about 22 kids plus supervisors, were 2 young English kids and their mom. The little girl had left her sunglasses at the show. So they came back to find them and couldn't. Typical of the Kid's Market customer care, management was down helping find these $2 sun glasses. I came out to see if I as Elfina the Magical Elf could help. I couldn't. The sun glasses were no where to be seen. So it was Kids Market Christmas colouring books and reindeer antlers to help ease the pain for them. Then I offered to pose for pictures with them but they didn't have a camera so (again customer service) ToyBox Studios (www.toybox-studio.com) took the picture on their incredible professional camera even emailing it to them. I reaped the benefits of all the extra care they received . I got the hugs and then the kids crawled onto my lap for the photo and the mom just kept saying it was their second time to Granville Island and what a time they were having. They were from Victoria...I think they'll be moving to Vancouver soon!!!

Vancouvers Magical Clown Smartee Pants
Hi
Every week gives me an opportunity to be touched by the children that I entertain as a clown. I do magic. What's not to love? I do balloons. What's not to love? And I do face painting. (need I say it one more time?)
This weekend I got a wonderful chance to be a part of a dual birthday party, a 6 year old and her 2 year old cousin. For what ever I added to their party, the return was tremendous.
One of the children was physically challenged. I wasn't aware of that when I was hired or even half way through the party. The mom asked if she could bring over her daughter, it was then I found out she was in a wheelchair.
So I made her special balloons for wheelchair. The mom was so touched that I put a heart inside a clear balloon added it to another balloon for a handle and made her a string of balloon bubbles to make it look like a royal scepter that was never to be held by this little princess' hand. I attached it to the back of her wheelchair.
The mom went to place a rose close to where I had attached the balloons and I mentioned that the two didn't go well together. She then turned and gave me the rose. I said "Oh no that is for your daughter"
The mom said "You have made such a difference at this party. The children are so happy. You have met my angel, may this rose help you remember her." That rose is in my house and long after I have had to throw it away, the memory of that little one and her mom and dad will live long in my memory.
Thank you.
